Wanted to throw in my two cents on Jason's successor. The adjutant at 7th Marines is a unique position and I want to make sure you factor that into your decision. Jason has to deal with 4 battalions in the regiment like any other regimental adjutant, but he also deals with 4 other separate battalions; 1st Tanks, 3rd LAR, 3/11 and Delta Company, 3rd AAVs. Unfortunately, the command relationship between these battalions and the regiment is a little hazy. They report directly to the CG, 1st MarDiv, but because they are division units and the CO is the Senior Division officer at MAGTF TC, they also report through this chain of command. Kind of complicated and no place for an inexperienced adjutant. The adjutant must be mature enough and technically savvy enough to deal with all the battalions aboard MAGTF TC. In addition, because the CO 7th Marines is the senior Division officer aboard MAGTF TC, Jason handles a lot of senior level protocol issues. He must also interface with the base on a variety of issues that other adjutant's do not have to do deal with.

As you can see, we need someone with a little G-2 that has some experience beyond his first tour. A 1stLt, unless an extremely rare find, will have difficulties juggling all the glass balls that the 7th Marines adjutant must. Please keep the above in mind as you search for a replacement and make sure your proverbial "round peg in the round hole" is really qualified to handle the demands of this unique billet. It would not be fair to the individual or the regiment to send someone who is not up to the task.

LtCol Jim "Duke" Cameron
