TBS QUESTIONS

Good morning sir I have a few questions concerning TBS.

I recently graduated from officer candidate school and I am finishing up with school next August. I was wondering what the daily routines is at TBS.

After the crucible we got to meet some of the second lieutenants and they told us some stuff but I wanted to get into more detail.  What is the average run time of the officers there?

What time do you get up and what time is the day over with?

I also heard PT is on your own, does that mean there is never any
scheduled PT?

What time do you get off for liberty, does it start on Friday or Saturday?

Also for MOS selection, how many different officer MOS are out there, and how many do you put as selections?

I want to do military police or adjutant, what are the chances that I will get military police in particular, I know there are few slots but I was told that if you have police experience you can get it, who in your company got to be MPs?

I do not want to do infantry or supply, I know alot of people complain about getting supply, who usually got supply?

Did those people list supply as one of their selections?

Sorry for all of these questions, I am just curious.  If you can answer them I would greatly appreciate it, thanks for your time.

James,

Here are some answers to your questions:

"What is the average run time of the officers there? "

I would say under 20 minutes. My initial PFT was 17:46 but that was because I had trained hard all summer and was scared that I would lag behind most of the Company who had just graduated OCS the Friday prior to TBS. Talk about over-compensation! I dropped about a minute by the end (sheer exhaustion.)

What time do you get up and what time is the day over with?

I was a brown bagger which meant that I lived in the barracks. They had limited space since the old barracks were being overhauled. They made most lieutenants move out in town. So the day started most of the time at 0700 but morning musters and other section duties (depended on which section you happen to be in) caused a 0600 show up time most of the time. So if you lived in town, that would bump it back another half hour or hour. Of course this all depends on the schedule. Sometimes it was earlier but rarely later.

"I also heard pt is on your own, does that mean there is never any scheduled PT?"

PT is mostly on your own but it depends on what section you belong to. Some did section PT every day. Some, never. It depends on your SPC. We PT'd together about once a week. But it is up to you to stay in shape for the events. Self-discipline at its best.

What time do you get off for liberty,

This will be the biggest source of angst. It varies but it always ends up that you are waiting around at the end of the day to get the elusive "word." Secure time varies but you can count on about 1800, give or take an hour.

"does it start on Friday or Saturday? "

Usually Friday but sometimes there are weekend events and of course if you are in the field, so sad. If you fail the swim qual, you will be coming in on Saturday to train. If you fail any portion of land navigation, you will be coming in, too. Other than that, weekends are studying, resting, ironing, polishing, and PT.

Read the following on MOS selection to answer the questions you posed below:

My internet connection is down so I cannot access the link. Go to my homepage and scroll down until you get to "Got Questions?" Then click the "here" and look through there. I have a page that talks all about MOS selection at TBS. If you have any more questions after you read this, let me know.

"Also for mos selection, how many different officer mos are out there,"

We had about 25 to choose from.

"and how many do you put as selections?"

All, ranking them from most to least desired.
